Computed Tomography (CT)

Computed Tomography (CT) is an advanced imaging method that uses X-Rays and computer technology to produce detailed cross-sectional images of internal structures, including bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues. CT scans provide significantly more detailed information than standard X-Rays. In some cases, a contrast agent may be used to enhance image quality and improve diagnostic accuracy. The CT scanner is shaped like a large doughnut, with a movable bed that slides through its centre. During the scan, patients are required to remain still to ensure clear images.

FAQs

Yes, all CT scans require an appointment. Please contact our clinic by phone, visit us in person, or submit your referral to book the next available time.
Preparation requirements vary depending on the type of CT scan. Our team will provide detailed instructions when you book your appointment. Some scans may involve fasting or drinking a contrast liquid beforehand. Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork and notify staff if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.

To ensure a smooth process, please bring:

  • Your referral form from a healthcare provider.
  • A valid Medicare or DVA card.
  • WorkCover claim details, if applicable.
A qualified radiographer will guide you through the process and assist you with any preparation. You’ll be positioned on the scanner’s bed, which will move through the doughnut-shaped scanner while images are taken. You may hear whirring sounds and be given breathing instructions during the scan. If a contrast agent is required, it will be administered as directed by the radiographer.
Most Medicare-eligible CT scans are bulk billed at BR Radiology Group. If your scan requires an out-of-pocket fee, our booking staff will inform you during the scheduling process.
Reports are generally ready within 24 to 48 hours. If your doctor has requested urgent results, please let our staff know. We will prioritise your scan and ensure the radiologist prepares your report promptly.
