Dental Imaging

Dental imaging employs various advanced techniques to assess the health of teeth, jawbones, and facial joints. Among these, the OPG (orthopantomogram) is particularly common. It provides a panoramic X-Ray of the entire upper and lower jaws, including all teeth, to help dentists and doctors evaluate oral health effectively. During an OPG, the imaging device rotates around the head, capturing comprehensive and detailed images.

FAQs

In most cases, dental imaging procedures like OPGs do not require an appointment. Our clinics work to minimize waiting times. However, for more specialized scans such as CT Dentascan, an appointment may be necessary. Please contact us for guidance.

Minimal preparation is required. You may need to remove metal objects, such as jewellery, piercings, or glasses, as these can interfere with imaging quality. We recommend arriving 15 minutes early to allow time for paperwork or other preparations.

Please ensure you have the following:

  • A referral form from your dentist or healthcare provider.
  • Your Medicare or DVA card, if applicable.
  • If your scan is related to a workplace injury, bring your WorkCover claim number or notify us of your intent to lodge a claim.

A trained staff member will assist you throughout the process. For OPGs, you will either stand or sit while the imaging unit moves around your head, capturing a detailed panoramic view of your teeth and jaws. The procedure is painless and usually takes 5 to 15 minutes. Following the scan, a radiologist will review the images and prepare a report for your referring provider.

BR Radiology Group bulk bill most Medicare-eligible dental imaging services. If your procedure requires additional fees, our team will inform you during booking or upon arrival.

Reports are typically available within 24 to 48 hours. If your dentist or doctor requires urgent results, let us know, and we will prioritise your case.
