Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Across our clinics, we are committed to providing high-quality diagnostic imaging supported by experienced clinical teams and modern technology. When clinically appropriate, MRI plays an important role in supporting accurate diagnosis and treatment planning for a wide range of conditions.
As part of our ongoing investment in advanced imaging, Beachside Radiology is proud to offer the SIGNA™ Hero MRI system, enhancing the services available at our Coffs Harbour location.
MRI is a non-invasive imaging examination that produces detailed images of the body’s internal structures without the use of ionising radiation. The scan is painless and is commonly used to assess soft tissues, joints, the spine, brain, and internal organs.
Designed with Patient Comfort in Mind
Located at Beachside Radiology, the SIGNA™ Hero MRI system features a spacious 70cm wide-bore design, offering patients more room during their scan and helping to reduce feelings of confinement. Its innovative AIR™ coil technology is soft, lightweight, and flexible, comfortably adapting to the body to support a more relaxed scanning experience.
Our team will guide patients through the process and ensure they feel informed and supported before, during, and after their examination.
Advanced Imaging for Accurate Diagnosis
The SIGNA™ Hero incorporates AI-assisted imaging technology to deliver high-quality images efficiently and with excellent detail. This supports confident interpretation, accurate diagnosis, and effective treatment planning for referring practitioners.
MRI is a non-ionising imaging modality known for its superior soft tissue contrast, making it a valuable diagnostic tool across many clinical applications.
Supporting Better Care and Clinical Workflow
The introduction of the SIGNA™ Hero MRI system at our Beachside clinic enhances workflow efficiency and scan consistency, allowing our team to provide timely imaging services while maintaining a calm, patient-centred environment.
This system supports seamless integration into clinical pathways, ensuring reliable results and clear communication for both patients and referrers.
FAQs
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses strong magnetic fields and advanced computer processing to create detailed images of organs, tissues, and structures within the body. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, MRI does not use radiation.
MRI scans are commonly requested to investigate neurological, musculoskeletal, abdominal, and soft tissue conditions. The examination is painless, and most scans are completed within a single appointment.
At Beachside Radiology, MRI scans are performed using the SIGNA™ Hero MRI system, providing advanced imaging capability within the Coffs Harbour region.
What Is an MRI Scan?
- You may continue your regular diet unless instructed otherwise.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Avoid wearing jewellery, watches, or other metal items, as these must be removed before the scan.
- To prevent interference with the imaging process, refrain from using makeup, hairspray, or other hair products on the day of your appointment.
- It is best to leave valuables at home.
You will lie on a motorised table that slides into the MRI scanner, which is shaped like a tunnel. During the scan, you will hear loud knocking or buzzing noises as the machine captures images. It is important to remain completely still to ensure clear results.
If needed, a contrast agent may be injected to enhance image clarity.
Patients with certain implants or medical devices, such as pacemakers, neurostimulators, cochlear implants, or metal clips in the eyes, cannot undergo MRI scans. If you have worked with welders or grinders, an X-Ray of your eyes may be required to ensure no metal fragments are present.
If you are concerned about feelings of claustrophobia, please contact our team before your appointment. We can discuss strategies to help you feel more comfortable, such as the use of an open MRI or relaxation techniques.
No, MRI scans are painless. You may feel slight discomfort if lying still for an extended period, but there are no physical sensations caused by the scan itself.
If a contrast injection is needed, the radiologist or technician will administer it during the scan. They will explain the process and address any questions beforehand.
Most MRI scans take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the complexity of the imaging required.
Please allow 24 to 48 hours for your report. If you have been instructed to return to your healthcare professional immediately following the scan, it is important to advise one of our staff members. If your exam is clinically urgent, this will be prioritised, and our team will communicate with our Radiologist to ensure a prompt report is provided.
